What are the Ingredients in the Mineral Makeup?

  Mica Powder

Mica is the name of a group of natural occurring minerals.  It can be opalescent, sparkling or completely matte.

Mica Powder is purified and crushed mica mineral.  It is available in a variety of different colors that go from dazzling silver to gold tones to mute.

The addition of Titanium dioxide and iron oxides to mica is what brings in the vast variety of colors available.  Some Mica powders have a shimmer and glitter effect.

Iron Oxides

Iron Oxides are the strongest pigments available, most are non- bleeding and weather resistant.  Iron oxides are processed and refined and are no longer in the natural state.  The reason for this is because in nature Iron Oxides are often combined with toxic metals like lead arsenic, mercury, antimony and selenium.  Therefore the FDA regulates oxides used in cosmetic colorants so that the toxicity levels have been reduced dramatically to be safe for our skin.  These have been processed and refined and are no longer in the natural state.  These are used in a very wide variety of cosmetics from foundations to lipsticks and glosses.

Titanium Dioxide

Titanium Dioxide is a very bright and very refractive (only surpassed by diamonds) pigment powder with a sticky feel.  Titanium Dioxide is a great sun block (the height refractive indexes will protect your skin from ultraviolet light) and is soothing on the skin.

Silica Powder

Silica is a very smooth, silky, translucent, fine white-pink powder used in many cosmetics.  It is highly absorbent and used for oil control.  It improves slip and due to its light scattering properties reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  This is a fantastic natural addition to the blend.

Tests show it has been successfully used in hypoallergenic and allergy test formulations.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin Clay, also known as China Clay, is a fine, soft, earthy white mineral powder.  It is used in many powdered and opaque cosmetics.  There are many different kinds of clay, but Kaolin is the most versatile and purest of all.

Kaolin used in foundations blends has a medium coverage, is highly absorbent, adhesive and has a creamy texture.

Kaolin clay absorbs moisture, reduces shine on the skin, is odorless and has a smooth texture.

Rice Powder

Rice powder is lightweight, translucent and offers slow oil-absorbing properties.  Rice powder is an ultimate skin softener.  It adds a nice slip and silky application to all mineral formulas, leaving skin with porcelain shine free finish.

Methicon

Mica with Methicon is plain Mica coated with Methicon.  Methicon is a type of natural silicone used primarily in the formulations of free flowing cosmetic powders.  It also aids with adhesion of powders and reduces the appearance of fine lines.  It acts only temporarily once you cleanse it is removed.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide is a white powder that has a slightly sticky feel.  It remains white even if it is exposed to the sunlight and it protects the skin against sunburn.

Zinc Oxide protects your skin from aging and cancer caused by UVA ray light (cause by the sun).  It calms irritated skin and helps with skin conditions such as Rosacea or redness.  This like Titanium Dioxide provides high coverage and adhesion to cosmetic products.

Serecite Mica

Sericite Mica reflects light and reduces the appearance of fine lines.  It helps to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores but will not clog them.

Due to its physically smooth property, Sericite Mica feels kind of silky and provides an optical shimmer/luster when used in cosmetics.  It is translucent when applied.  It gives medium adhesion to our products.  Sericite is an off white Mica that is blended with other shades and colors of Micas to produce a variety of colors.

Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium Stearate is a white, odorless powder.  It provides consistency, texture and opacity.  It is average in coverage appearance with very high adhesion properties.  Our Stearate is vegetable derived.
