About Mineral Makeup Ingredients
Mineral makeup is generally formulated with all natural, finely ground minerals from the earth, minus the chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in traditional makeup. It's defined by giving your skin smooth, natural, long-lasting coverage. Since there's no regulation that controls when or how a product is labeled as being "mineral makeup", it's important to understand what makes for an effective mineral makeup product, and which ingredients more truly are natural and 'from the earth'. Products that contain some percentage of minerals may be marketed as mineral makeup, even though they might also contain a lot of synthetic ingredients - ones that you do not want on your skin! LUVU Beauty has stayed loya to the true defination of Mineral Cosmetics and Natural Products from the start!
Listed below are some simple ingredient break downs to help you understand Mineral Makeup and its benefits alittle better.
About LUVU Beauty Mineral Makeup
LUVU Beauty formulas were founded through vigorous research, experimentation and of course some more research. Each ingredient used in our products is safe, pure and has its own purpose. We believe in using the most natural ingredient available that will safely produce the desired result while doing nothing but wonders for your skin...NATURALLY!!
With our formulas and the ingredients that are listed below, your skin will have the feel and glow of youth. Your skin will feel bare and natural!!!
Below is a list of the main ingredients we use. We have numerous lip and eyeshadow shades. The pigments used to produce these shades vary tremendously. Please refer to each products details to review their individual ingredients.
We do not use Bismuth Oxychloride, Talc, chemicals, dyes, fragrances, or preservatives in our mineral makeup. Although very popular in main stream makeup, these ingredients do not add to the quality or "natural" status we have achieved. Also, bismuth has been found to irritate many skin types. Bismuth and talc can also clog pores and lead to acne break outs.

"I am grateful to have found LUVU Beauty. I was getting frustrated with the lack of selection provided by my health food store, when it came to all-natural make-up. The LUVU Beauty website was more than what I was looking for, lots of different products ranging from skin care, nail polishes, make-up and more. I couldn’t wait to meet with Tira, I received one on one personal attention and had all my questions answered about the products. Ever since I have been using LUVU Beauty products, the results have been amazing. I decided to join the LUVU Beauty team so I could have the opportunity to give other women the same benefits I have received.
With all the information about the dangers of chemicals in our day to day products I am so relieved to have found a company that cares about the products they provide and the people who use them. As my daughter grows she will be blessed with beauty products that will radiate her true beauty, naturally. "

Sun Screen
Each ingredient in mineral makeup has a purpose. Ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are used as a sunscreen due to their UVA and UVB protection.
Colour
Mineral makeup contains many naturally occurring ingredients like mica and iron oxides. These provide shimmer and color to the makeup.
Consistency
The minerals are ground into a fine powder that comprises mineral makeup foundations, bronzers and blush. This makeup is powdery in consistency, but is creamy when applied to the skin with a makeup brush.
Effects
Ingredient like Kaolin Clay in mineral makeup can help soothe acne. Sulfur in a mineral acne treatment draws out impurities and heals with its antibacterial properties.
Warning
Some types of mineral makeup do include waxes and other natural and unnatural ingredients like Bismuth Oxychloride which causes irritations, rashes and cystic acne, talc, which causes flakey, dry irritated skin conditions as well as creating a shorter shelf life for your cosmetics and cornstarch which is much like Talc to name a few. Those with sensitive skin or allergies should read ingredients list carefully.

Mica Powder
Mica is the name of a group of natural occurring minerals. It can be opalescent, sparkling or completely matte. Mica Powder is purified and crushed mica mineral. It is available in a variety of different colors that go from dazzling silver to gold tones to mute. The addition of Titanium dioxide and iron oxides to mica is what brings in the vast variety of colors available. Some Mica powders have a shimmer and glitter effect.
Iron Oxides
Iron Oxides are the strongest pigments available, most are non- bleeding and weather resistant. Iron oxides are processed and refined and are no longer in the natural state. The reason for this is because in nature Iron Oxides are often combined with toxic metals like lead arsenic, mercury, antimony and selenium. Therefore the FDA regulates oxides used in cosmetic colorants so that the toxicity levels have been reduced dramatically to be safe for our skin. These have been processed and refined and are no longer in the natural state. These are used in a very wide variety of cosmetics from foundations to lipsticks and glosses.
Titanium Dioxide
Titanium Dioxide is a very bright and very refractive (only surpassed by diamonds) pigment powder with a sticky feel. Titanium Dioxide is a great sun block (the height refractive indexes will protect your skin from ultraviolet light) and is soothing on the skin.
Silica Powder
Silica is a very smooth, silky, translucent, fine white-pink powder used in many cosmetics. It is highly absorbent and used for oil control. It improves slip and due to its light scattering properties reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is a fantastic natural addition to the blend. Tests show it has been successfully used in hypoallergenic and allergy test formulations.
Kaolin Clay
Kaolin Clay, also known as China Clay, is a fine, soft, earthy white mineral powder. It is used in many powdered and opaque cosmetics. There are many different kinds of clay, but Kaolin is the most versatile and purest of all. Kaolin used in foundations blends has a medium coverage, is highly absorbent, adhesive and has a creamy texture. Kaolin clay absorbs moisture, reduces shine on the skin, is odorless and has a smooth texture.
Rice Powder
Rice powder is lightweight, translucent and offers slow oil-absorbing properties. Rice powder is an ultimate skin softener. It adds a nice slip and silky application to all mineral formulas, leaving skin with porcelain shine free finish.
Methicon
Mica with Methicon is plain Mica coated with Methicon. Methicon is a type of natural silicone used primarily in the formulations of free flowing cosmetic powders. It also aids with adhesion of powders and reduces the appearance of fine lines. It acts only temporarily once you cleanse it is removed.
Zinc Oxide
Zinc Oxide is a white powder that has a slightly sticky feel. It remains white even if it is exposed to the sunlight and it protects the skin against sunburn. Zinc Oxide protects your skin from aging and cancer caused by UVA ray light (cause by the sun). It calms irritated skin and helps with skin conditions such as Rosacea or redness. This like Titanium Dioxide provides high coverage and adhesion to cosmetic products.
Serecite Mica
Sericite Mica reflects light and reduces the appearance of fine lines. It helps to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores but will not clog them. Due to its physically smooth property, Sericite Mica feels kind of silky and provides an optical shimmer/luster when used in cosmetics. It is translucent when applied. It gives medium adhesion to our products. Sericite is an off white Mica that is blended with other shades and colors of Micas to produce a variety of colors.
Magnesium Stearate
Magnesium Stearate is a white, odorless powder. It provides consistency, texture and opacity. It is average in coverage appearance with very high adhesion properties. Our Stearate is vegetable derived.
